Snack Machine - Doritos Spicy Sweet Chili

May 13th, 2008

I’ve been devastated ever since Doritos took away their Salsa flavored chips about a year ago. I believe that Salsa was the only Doritos flavor that sufficiently covered each chip with the proper amount of their wonderful flavored powder. One glance in a bag of Salsa doritos and you could immediately see those chips were covered from corner to corner with so much flavor (aka powder) that your head wanted to explode. It was awesome.

Even with the removal of the Salsa flavor, I have maintained my love for all things Doritos and am always anxious to bring each new flavor of Doritos home to my cabinet. Unfortunately in the last year, each flavor has ultimately disappointed me with what I believe is inadequate flavoring and taste. This repeated disappointment made me hesitant to try the new Spicy Sweet Doritos but finally this week curiosity got the best of me.

From the first chip that I pulled out from the Spicy Sweet Doritos bag, I was immediately worried because the chip looked like it had almost no powder on it. I’ve seen this same problem on many other flavors in the past and I hoped it was a single chip mishap. As I looked deeper in this bag, I was distraught to see that all the chips appeared exactly as the first chip. I trucked forward anyway and my first bite immediately surprised me with how much sweet and salty flavor each chip provided. Even though barely visible, these chips had a sufficient amount of the sweet chili flavoring across each chip. Unfortunately, the spicyness was completely non apparent, but I still found myself craving chip after chip. I finished up my 99 cent bag in no time and I was satisfied enough to warrant possibly the purchase of a larger bag. Good job Doritos, you won some of my love back but to truly satisfy me have me, you will have to bring back the Salsa Doritos .

Can be found at Buddy’s on North Highland and pretty much any gas station in the metro area.
