Being a historic city, such as Atlanta, gives us great opportunites to find out facts about our past. These facts won’t make you any more beautiful, but will make you look intelligent. So here is the “Great Fact about Atlanta” for today.

Atlanta used to be known as Marthasville, named after the then daughter of then Governor Wilson Lumpkin.
I guess he wanted to name it Lumpkin but there was already another town named Lumpkin after the great John Lumpkin, who was a pumpkin farmer. After it turned out Martha was not as hot or as smart as everyone hoped, the city enginner suggested that the name of the town be turned into “Atlanta,” named after the railroad line. It has stayed that way until today.
So there you go, you live in the town that used to be called Marthasville, which still had the players we have today.
