Unplugged in the Park
When: Sundays starting at 7pm
Where: Park Tavern
How much: Free
buddyfeed says: In years past, 99x’s Unplugged in the Park has been a place to see incredible bands play acoustic sets in an incredibly small venue. Shows such as Ben Kweller, Band of Horses, and Pete Yorn have made in past years this one best events of the summer. At first glance at the list of bands is ok, but none of them have the mass appeal that some bands in the past did. But it’s early and there are still a lot of dates to fill, so maybe we will be pleasantly surprised. Even if the lineup remains unchanged, I still highly recommend the event because there are not many places where you can go in Atlanta and get a free show on a Sunday in a place with as nice of a view as Park Tavern. As a note, one thing has changed since last year’ Unplugged in the Park. 99x, the organizer and promoter of last years event, is no longer a terrestrial radio station, instead now broadcasting online only and have decided to team up with Rock 100.5 to co-promoted the event. Who knows if this will have any effect on the types of band but we will just have to wait and see. Enjoy the shows.

With the help of a few sponsors and probably a few of our tax dollars, Georgia Tech is bringing to Midtown its spin to the weekly, outdoor summertime movies series . The series, Flicks on Fifth, will take place in Technology Square on Fifth street and will attempt to draw the younger crowd by showing recent hits like Superbad and the Bourne Ultimatum. Unfortunately since I’ve never been to this event, I can’t really speak much about the setup and the atmosphere. Either way, I think the fact that movies in this series are more recent hits and that it doesn’t explicitly say you can’t bring beer, will make this a nice alternative to this year’s Screen on the Green. The movies start at sundown and you can find out more info here.
Cost: Free
Movie Lineup:
| JUNE 11 | I am Legend |
| JUNE 18 | Horton Hear’s a Who |
| JUNE 25 | The Bourne Ultimatum |
| JULY 9 | Hairspray |
| JULY 16 | Superbad |
| JULY 23 | 21 |

It looks like the Vampire boys took a few business classes while at Columbia and understand how to cash in on their recent success. Not more than a month after they completed their show at the Earl in East Atlanta, Vampire Weekend has scheduled a show for the Variety Playhouse on June 11th. Their show at the Earl was pretty fantastic and there was plenty of adoring fans among the sold out crowd. Word has traveled fast on this band, so if you want to go this show then I recommend that you buy your tickets soon. I’ve already got mine. See you at the show.
