Free Lunch and Beer from Stout Irish Pub - Buckhead

June 4th, 2008

If you are willing to give up your email address, you can get a free lunch and a free beer on Stout Irish Pub. Now, I don’t think I ever went to McDuff’s during the day, I’m pretty sure that was a good thing, so this will be a good opportunity to see what East Andrews did to the place in the light of day. Here’s the link to get the coupon.

Cheap Eats - Checkers Double Philly Cheesesteak Burger

May 19th, 2008

Checkers corporate headquarters enjoys creating burgers, such as their new Philly Double Cheesesteak Burger, that make my taste buds salivate and my stomach cringe in fear. If the name of the new burger isn’t enough to scare you out of wearing a bathing suit till winter, maybe the fact that it contains two burgers, three slices of cheese, a pile of steak, all of which is stuffed between two pieces of buttered up, sourdough bread will. On top of those hearty ingredients, they also tempt you by making two of these delightful burgers a steal at only five dollars. So while I trying to avoid the thought of the approaching weekend of bathing suits and beaches, I decided to take one of these burgers for a test ride.

When pulling these burgers out of the bag, my stomach immediately starts to whimper at what it I have gotten it into. Looking at the match up, I fully understand why my stomach would be a little nervous because the burger probably outweighs my stomach by a few pounds and is twice its size. Meanwhile, my taste buds immediately begin support the choice as they salivate at the tasty, cheese soaked steak that is falling off the side of the burger. With complete carelessness for my stomach and my waistline, I take my first bite. First off, the meat and cheese has been packed so tight it’s hard to tell where the burger ends and where the steak begins. With each bite, my stomach fights to digest the sheer quantity of meat, cheese and sourdough bread this burger throws at it. As I work through the burger it becomes a desperate fight between my stomach, tastebuds and the burger to who will be the first to concede. In this fight, the burger ultimately loses as I finish it while my stomach is still working in overdrive to digest it. With my final bite, my tastebuds are not only worn out but I am feeling a little too full to enjoy the fries and instead go for the coke in hope that it will encourage digestion.

If you are in the mood for a hardy meal and are confident enough in your appearance for this weekend, then this Checkers burger will be perfect for you. If not, I definitely think you should give this burger a chance, but I recommend that you spend a few more hours on that treadmill before you try to squeeze into that bathing suit this Memorial Day weekend.

You can find this burger at all Checkers locations. I bought mine at the Checkers on 10th.

How excited were you when McDonalds knocked off Chick-Fil-A and created the Southern Style Chicken sandwich? Finally, you could eat a fast food chicken sandwich on a Sunday when you needed it most…hung over and lazy. McDonalds launches it’s clone nationally this week and in celebration, is giving it away free. On Wednesday, May 14, McDonalds will set up a 50 x 50 foot table (these are the perimeters of the “while supplies last” fine print) loaded with FREE Southern Style Chicken Biscuits at the Center For Puppetry Arts (1404 Spring Street at 18th Street in Midtown Atlanta) from 6-9am.  Then, on Thursday May 15th, you’ll be able to swing buy any McDonalds store for a free Southern Style Chicken Biscuit or Chicken Sandwich (depending on when you wake up) when you purchase a drink.

Snack Machine - Doritos Spicy Sweet Chili

May 13th, 2008

I’ve been devastated ever since Doritos took away their Salsa flavored chips about a year ago. I believe that Salsa was the only Doritos flavor that sufficiently covered each chip with the proper amount of their wonderful flavored powder. One glance in a bag of Salsa doritos and you could immediately see those chips were covered from corner to corner with so much flavor (aka powder) that your head wanted to explode. It was awesome.

Even with the removal of the Salsa flavor, I have maintained my love for all things Doritos and am always anxious to bring each new flavor of Doritos home to my cabinet. Unfortunately in the last year, each flavor has ultimately disappointed me with what I believe is inadequate flavoring and taste. This repeated disappointment made me hesitant to try the new Spicy Sweet Doritos but finally this week curiosity got the best of me.

From the first chip that I pulled out from the Spicy Sweet Doritos bag, I was immediately worried because the chip looked like it had almost no powder on it. I’ve seen this same problem on many other flavors in the past and I hoped it was a single chip mishap. As I looked deeper in this bag, I was distraught to see that all the chips appeared exactly as the first chip. I trucked forward anyway and my first bite immediately surprised me with how much sweet and salty flavor each chip provided. Even though barely visible, these chips had a sufficient amount of the sweet chili flavoring across each chip. Unfortunately, the spicyness was completely non apparent, but I still found myself craving chip after chip. I finished up my 99 cent bag in no time and I was satisfied enough to warrant possibly the purchase of a larger bag. Good job Doritos, you won some of my love back but to truly satisfy me have me, you will have to bring back the Salsa Doritos .

Can be found at Buddy’s on North Highland and pretty much any gas station in the metro area.
