Earth to Hole in the Wall, do you know where you are?

April 18th, 2008

In this ad, found in this weeks “Insite Atlanta,” Loco’s, Peachtree Tavern, Hole in the Wall, and Moondogs tout themselves as the “Southern Alternative to Buckhead.”  Ok, whoever came up with this ad probably has done a lot of things in their lives such as drinking, boozing, probably smoked some pot, but apparently one thing they have not taken a geography class.  Take a look at the map below and let me lay it out for you.  Let’s say you are standing at Hole in the Wall (boxed in yellow), then by my geographical calculations you are an “eastern alternative” to East Andrews, (boxed in red) a “northern alternative” to Fado’s (boxed in blue) and the old classic buckhead (boxed in green).  Now I guess you could be a “southern alternative” to Lenox mall but I would not define Hole in the Wall as an alternative to anything except maybe a college frat party.

From Here to the Urinal - Mr. C’s - Howell Mill Road

April 17th, 2008

From Here to the Urinal was created to tell you a little more about the places around town through something every good bar has and ultimately tells you a lot about the clientèle, the urinal wall musings. So to kick it off, I wanted to start off with something crude and crass because most of what you will find in this segment will be just that. This wonderful piece of work can be found at Mr. C’s, which is an awesome dive bar off Howell Mill road. I’m not sure who Charlene is but supposedly she is quite the talented lady. I have blanked out the number because there are many of you guys would probably bother poor Charlene and try to exploit her talents. I’ve have and unfortunately and Charlene has changed her number probably do to sheer number of calls from such a stunning endorsement. Either way, here’s to Mr. C’s and definitely here’s to Charlene, a nice start to From Here to the Urinal.

Jezebel Most Eligible Bachelor accepting (rejecting) applications now.

April 17th, 2008

Each of the last four years, I have sat down in the spring and most diligently filled out my Jezebel Most Eligible Bachelor application. I imagine the application is similar to the one that a playmate has to fill out before their centerfold issue, filled with likes and dislikes, favorite car, and questions like, “the way to your heart is…”.    So once I have answered all the questions with totally sensationalized answers about how awesome I am, I tuck the application away in an envelope and hope the powers that be will choose me for their most eligible issue.  The result: No answer, four years and counting. Now don’t think I’m bitter because I’m not, I can handle the rejection because I’m used to it, probably unlike the other most eligible bachelors .  But remember this Jezebel, maybe one day buddyfeed will have a most eligible contest and guess who won’t be on that one, yeah that’s you and well, probably me too.

AJC Atlanta International Auto Show - April 19-27th

April 17th, 2008

Whether you are in the market for a new Aston Martin or even Saturn, you will be able to find them all at the AJC Auto show. People who have gone in the past have never told me anything real special about Atlanta Auto Shows. Therefore, I feel safe to say that it’s probably similar to many other auto shows outside of New York, Detroit and LA, where you have lots of cars, some hot girls, a bag full of brochures and a bunch of dudes all staring at the dream cars they never could afford. If you are into all those things, this will be a good way to spend a few hours during the next week.

Panic at the Disco, Motion City SoundTrack, Phantom Planet - April 26th - Masquerade Music Park

April 17th, 2008

The Honda Motor Company is at it again with the 8th edition of the Honda Civic Tour. The perfect marriage between music, automotive engineering, and environmentalism will be making a stop in Atlanta on Saturday, April 26th at the Masquerade Music Park. This is important to note as the original two dates at the Tabernacle have been changed due to the tornado tearing a hole in their roof.

This year’s lineup features the older and more mature Panic at the Disco (no more exclamation point) with their emo brethren Hush Sound, Motion City Soundtrack, and Phantom Planet as opening acts. Continuing on the path laid out by previous Civic tours, the musical stylings will once again contain a heavy dose of emo, pop-punk, and a dash of rock (except for 2006 which was hip-hop focused for some reason). This of course begs the question, are Honda Civics emo?

After hours of intense research I have unequivocally concluded that yes, Honda Civics are indeed emo. With its compact frame, non-threatening nature, low horsepower, and soft exhaust tones Honda Civics tend to display characteristics that manifest itself in “emos” of the human world. Take a look at past year’s examples and judge for yourself. I am a personal fan of the original 2001 Blink 182 version…someone put a lot of thought into that one. Check out the cars.

The Hawks have made the playoffs for the first time in 8 years and now, the coach, Mike Woodson, has agreed to shave his head to celebrate the accomplishment. Here’s the Hawks for making the playoffs, who as one of the show hosts says, have been “the abyss of the basketball” for the last 8 years.
