How much: Free

Where: Virginia Avenue from North Highland to Park Drive

buddyfeed says: Full of local arts booths, food and music, this festival is a little more of a family friendly event then your standard springtime beer festivals. But don’t let that scare you away, the Virginia Highlands Festival still supplies you plenty of beer stands that can give you a nice buzz in the summer sun. The Saturday festivities kick off with a parade which might not be your style, but there is always live music to enjoy while you drink the afternoon away. After a few hours at the festival, it’s always a good time to stumble to a friends house in the highlands before wandering out to the bars to close out the night. Enjoy the festival.

RIP McDuff’s - Welcome Stout Irish Sports Pub - Buckhead

May 30th, 2008

My favorite bar in Buckhead, McDuff’s, recently passed on and in it’s wake comes Stout Irish Sports Pub.  Stout Irish Sports Pub, owned by the folks who brought you East Andrews, will be as the press release describes:

Buckhead neighborhood pub will provide a full premium bar including a wide selection of over 50 beers, dark ales, refreshing lagers and rich stouts on draft and available in bottles. Miller High Life beers are always $1. In addition to a welcoming patio, the main bar features 19 TVs with international satellite, a pool table, dart boards, Golden Tee, NTN Buzztime Trivia and juke box while the lower level game room offers three additional pool tables, Pac Man & Galaga, a private bathroom and its own cocktail waitress.

Holy crap, that bar sounds exactly like McDuff’s.  That is genius idea to replacedan irish pub, with well another irish pub.   Either way, I’m sure this new place will do well because it will cater toward the East Andrew crowds more than McDuff’s did.  Stout Irish Sports Pub I wish you the best but I hope the boys who ran McDuff’s open a new bar somewhere else because they ran a cool, dive bar in an area that desperately needed one.

McDuff’s, I will drink a beer to you this weekend. RIP

Overheard in Starbucks on Peachtree - 5/26/2008

May 30th, 2008

You can hear a lot of weird shit in a Starbucks. People complaining about their jobs, their lovers and sometimes even about Starbucks. Along with bitching, people find Starbucks as a great non-threatening place to confront people. Unfortunately, they forget it to realize other people are listening. Here’s two guys that I overheard at the Starbucks on Peachtree

Guy 1 -”Why did you sleep with kimberly”

Guy 2 -”she’s fucking hot. You did.”

Guy 1 - “I did because she was my girlfriend.”

Guy 2 -”Ohh yeah, sorry that was my bad.”

Guy 1 - “That’s fucked up”

Guy 2 -”I’ll get your coffee.”

Great Facts about Atlanta - Marthasville is where the players used to play

May 29th, 2008

Being a historic city, such as Atlanta, gives us great opportunites to find out facts about our past. These facts won’t make you any more beautiful, but will make you look intelligent.  So here is the “Great Fact about Atlanta” for today.

Atlanta used to be known as Marthasville, named after the then daughter of then Governor Wilson Lumpkin.

I guess he wanted to name it Lumpkin but there was already another town named Lumpkin after the great John Lumpkin, who was a pumpkin farmer.   After it turned out Martha was not as hot or as smart as everyone hoped, the city enginner suggested that the name of the town be turned into “Atlanta,” named after the railroad line. It has stayed that way until today.

So there you go, you live in the town that used to be called Marthasville, which still had the players we have today.

Watch the Black Lips rock it through the Atlanta streets and down to the Magic City. If you ever get a chance to see them live, I highly recommend that you go check them out. Enjoy the video.

Draft on Taft - Midtown off Charles Allen - Saturday, May 31st

May 28th, 2008

What: Draft on Taft

When: Saturday, May 31st

Where:
Corner of Charles Allen and 10th St

What time: 3pm - 10pm

Anaylsis - “All you can drink,” are some sweet words, but not easily pulled off.  Most of the time “All you can drink festivals” turn into long lines and sometimes even not enough beer.  But with the current weather outlook for Saturday being partly cloudy skies and this event only being $25 bucks, I think this event is totally worth a shot.  Also, couple that with the this is not the first year of this event and they should be well prepared for the crowds and most importantly, you getting drunk.  Keep it safe and don’t pee in anyones front yard. At least don’t pee on mine. Enjoy the event.

Tickets: You can get here

Cars through the connector every day - 340,000

Multiplied by

Cost of a gallon of gas - $4
